In 2014 Encyclopedia Virginia began working with Google to create Google Street View virtual tours of sites of cultural significance throughout Virginia. This session will examine the way this content serves not only as an educational tool, but as a means of preservation and access for far-flung and threatened sites throughout the state.
We will examine the evolution of Google Street View from a solely browser-based technology to a source of rich virtual reality content. Additionally we will demonstrate the system that Google has created to make this content available for in-classroom, curated virtual field trips.
But enough about Google! In this session we will also examine non-proprietary solutions for annotating panoramic imagery with text, images and audio to create compelling narrative experiences.
