In this session, you will learn how to use inexpensive sensors and controllers such as Raspberry Pis and Arduinos and open source software like Nodejs and Johnny-Five to gather data on how users are interacting with your spaces. Topics will include smarter gate-counting with Open Computer Vision, tracking objects in space using Bluetooth Beacons, and using IoT sensors for raw data gathering. The session will include a live demonstration of some of these technologies and shared code to get you started.
What you’ll learn:
- How bluetooth beacons can be used to get the location of a device
- Which sensors can provide usable data for space assessment
- What different software libraries are available and what they are best used for
- The challenges facing small-scale IoT development, including security, platform, and battery-life
