Who knew a university would require such an abundance of websites? At the University of Virginia, we created an internal agency model to enable groups to publish beautiful, brand-friendly, economic websites with ongoing support. Using Drupal in the Acquia Cloud, we share hosting costs across clients and bill for hours spent on design, development, and support.
Starting with our branded template (except for our special snowflakes) and design tools, we mock up sites and (sometimes) have time to complete user testing to refine our approach. We test for accessibility and modify based on WCAG 2.0 AA standards. Clients take over at launch and manage their content ongoing, knowing they will not need to rely on expensive outside agencies or vanishing graduate students.
